This clinic is open to all riders and horses, from seasoned competitors to those stepping into the ring for the very first time. It’s the perfect STARS or LIHS warm-up, but also ideal for novices, new combinations, or anyone wanting to get ahead for the year ahead. Groups will be split accordingly to suit level of ability etc.

Penny is a household name in the showing world, with a career spanning decades of success both in the saddle and at the ringside:
	•	A HOYS and RIHS winner and producer, Penny has enjoyed countless successes at the UK’s most prestigious shows with horses and ponies across a wide variety of sections.
	•	Through her famous Pendle prefix, she has bred and produced many outstanding show horses and ponies, consistently achieving top results.
	•	A BHS Registered Instructor, Penny is known for her encouraging, practical approach, giving riders confidence and clarity in the ring.
	•	She is also an experienced judge, sitting on panels for the BSHA, BSPS, NPS, CHAPS, AHS and NCPA, with expertise across both ridden and in-hand sections.

Pre-STARS Final Fine Tuning Show Practice

Open to in-hand & ridden combinations

Get ready for STARS with a relaxed evening of show practice! An opportunity to build confidence, polish your performance and give your horse or pony a final rehearsal before the big occasion.

Our indoor arena will be dressed with white fencing, flowers and drapes, with music, microphone commentary and clapping to help recreate the show atmosphere! 

What to expect:

Time for your own warm-up and training, with rein changes instructed over the microphone for ridden combinations.

A mock show run-through, including go-rounds, individual shows or in-hand presentations, and conformation practice.

All in a laid-back, supportive atmosphere, with time to settle and work on those finishing touches.

Karl has been involved with STARS from the very beginning as part of the stewarding team and now leads one of its two teams of stewards. His experience makes this a particularly useful opportunity for anyone preparing for the championships.

With 12 years of producing ponies across a wide range of types, Karl’s record includes wins at HOYS, the Royal International, Royal Windsor and major county shows. He has also helped children progress from riding club showing to county championships and Horse of the Year Show wins.

A BSPS Star, UK Ponies & Horses Gold and TSR HOYS panel judge, Karl has judged in New Zealand, Australia and Ireland, with his UK appointments including Royal Windsor in 2026.

**Bring your questions, your training goals and the parts of your performance you’d like to improve.** From refining your individual show and ringcraft to presenting your pony confidently, this is an opportunity to benefit from the perspective of an experienced producer, trainer and judge.

Flatwork Clinic with Stuart Mason

You asked, and we listened! We are delighted to welcome Stuart Mason to Selston Equestrian Centre for his first flatwork clinic with us.

Stuart trains many of the country’s top showing producers, helping riders develop the correct foundations that underpin their horses’ performance. With a background in dressage riding and coaching, his work brings the benefits of correct, progressive flatwork to horses and ponies across disciplines.

Whether you are preparing for the show ring, working towards a dressage competition or simply looking to improve your everyday schooling, this is an opportunity to develop your partnership and work on the areas that matter to you.

Sessions can focus on rhythm and balance, suppleness and straightness, improving transitions, establishing a consistent contact and refining your effectiveness as a rider. For combinations ready to progress, lateral work can help build on those foundations.

We have received lots of requests to bring Stuart to Selston, so we expect this clinic to be extremely popular. Early booking is strongly recommended.

All sessions will be held in our indoor arena, with our outdoor 20m × 40m arena available for you to warm up in before your allocated time.

Join us at Selston Equestrian Centre for a clinic with successful show horse producer and rider Vicky Smith.

Based in Cheshire, Vicky has produced and ridden winners at Horse of the Year Show, the Royal International and Royal Windsor. Her experience spans a range of show horses, with a particular interest in developing young horses and helping them progress through their training.

Heading to the London International Horse Show? This clinic is an ideal opportunity for some focused preparation before the big occasion. Our indoor arena will be fully dressed in show style, providing the setting to practise your individual show, sharpen your ringcraft and work on those final details, helping you and your horse head to London feeling confident and well prepared.

Whether you are establishing a new partnership, preparing for your first shows or refining your performance for the season ahead, bring your questions and training goals.

Indoor Working Hunter Clinic with Craig Kiddier
Saturday 12th December – Selston Equestrian Centre

Join Craig Kiddier for an indoor working hunter clinic, with a fully dressed course and arena providing an ideal opportunity for preparation ahead of the London International Horse Show or focused winter training.

Craig is a highly successful show horse producer, rider and judge. His achievements include back-to-back Royal International Supreme Ridden Horse titles in 2024 and 2025, three consecutive RIHS working hunter championships and the HOYS Supreme Horse title in 2024. Alongside judging appointments at major shows, including HOYS qualifiers, Craig brings a wealth of practical experience in preparing horses for the top level and understanding what judges look for.

Work on your approach to fences, rhythm, balance and confidence around a course, with guidance tailored to you and your horse or pony. Whether you are putting the finishing touches to your championship preparation or developing your partnership over working hunter fences, sessions will suit a range of experience levels.

Session options:
- One-hour shared session – £30 per rider.

Richard is known throughout the UK showing and eventing world for his depth of experience, ring success, and judging credentials:
	•	Top-level show success: Richard has claimed wins and championships at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), Olympia, Royal Windsor, and the Royal International Horse Show.  
	•	As a judge and panel appointee, Richard is regularly selected for breed shows and national showing events, lending him a strong awareness of what judges seek.  
	•	He also produces a variety of ridden and in-hand horses and ponies, and has experience in eventing (up to CCI2* level).
